Thousands of Facebook users sign up at trust site for Georgia Williams
A social network site set up in memory of Georgia Williams has had an "astonishing reaction" in its first 24 hours.
The
was set up yesterday and by lunchtime today had already had more than 2,200 'likes' – Facebook users registering their interest in the work of the trust set up to create a lasting legacy to the Wellington teenager, who died after telling her family she was staying with friends.
A parallel trust Twitter account – @RememberGeorgia – is now being followed by more than 220 users.
Russell Griffin, one of the administrators of the Facebook page who has an involvement in setting up the trust, said: "It's been an astonishing and fantastic response from everybody who knew Georgia and those who have been touched by what happened. The community is very much pulling together and, hopefully, that will make setting up the charity up as smooth a process as possible.
"I am sure Georgia would be very proud and we look forward to using the trust to develop a lasting legacy to her."
The charity trust is being set up to co-ordinate all the fundraising carried out in Georgia's name and distribute the money to appropriate causes.
It is being created with the backing of Georgia's family and her older sister, Scarlett, will be one of the trustees.
The board will be chaired by Inspector Richard Langton, of West Mercia Police.
Thousands of people are expected to pack the streets of Wellington tomorrow afternoon for Georgia's funeral. After the cortege has passed through Wellington mourners will go to All Saints' Church for a service at 2.15pm celebrating her life.
Georgia's family has asked that adult mourners wear bright colours, and no black.
Ercall Wood Technology College, where Georgia had been head girl, is suspending lessons for the afternoon so pupils and staff can attend and New College, where Georgia was an A-level student, has also given permission for students to miss lessons to attend the funeral or line the cortege route.
Jamie Reynolds, 22, from Avondale Road, Wellington has been charged with Georgia's murder and remanded in custody until September 6.
