Oswestry police confiscate underage party booze
More than 100 bottles and cans of alcohol were confiscated when police broke up two underage end-of-school parties in Oswestry and Gobowen.
Officers warned today they would crack down on any other unsupervised events over the summer.
A large group of teenagers was found partying in and around Croeswylan Lane in Oswestry on Friday night while a smaller group was spotted in the nearby village of Gobowen.
In both instances large quantities of alcohol were taken from the young people, the majority of them 15 and 16 years, who had just finished their GCSE exams.
It follows an unsupervised party the previous weekend when a caravan was set on fire in Treflach.
Police Constable Pete Dale and community support officer, Kurt Mabe broke up the Oswestry event at about 9pm.
"They were partying and drinking along the lane and spilling over into the fields. There were empty cans and bottles and rubbish everywhere," Constable Dale said.
"We confiscated about 74 full cans and bottles and ensured the rubbish was picked up."
The alcohol, together with that confiscated at a smaller congregation of teenagers in Gobowen, was poured down the drains at Oswestry police station.
"We want to get the message across that unsupervised events like this will not be tolerated and alcohol will be confiscated from underage people."
People with information should call Oswestry police on 101.
