Shrewsbury murder victim's sister on fraud charges
The sister of a murdered Shrewsbury man has appeared in court accused of pocketing more than £60,000 from an insurance policy after his death.
Anna Marie Rugg, of Abbots Close, in Shrewsbury, faces four charges of fraud in relation to a family insurance policy after 52-year-old Paul Rugg was fatally stabbed in Harlescott in January 2010.
The charges relate to alleged bogus claims Rugg made to a police family liaison officer that she was the sole beneficiary of an insurance policy worth approximately £80,000 – and keeping £62,940.70 for herself.
Further charges say the defendant, who appeared at Shrewsbury Magistrates Court yesterday, then sent a false letter and signed a fake dependents form to life insurance company Aegon UK to get hold of the money.
Rugg, 45, gave no indication of a plea and she was released on conditional bail to appear before Shrewsbury Crown Court on July 8.
