The cygnet injured its wing after becoming caught on wire attached to a tree in a Telford lake.

It was rescued by Anna Morris-Jones from Cuan House Wildlife Rescue in Much Wenlock. Miss Morris-Jones said the bird had made a remarkable recovery and today released it back into balancing lake The Flash, in Priorslee. Fran Hill from the rescue centre performed the release.

The cygnet is reunited with its mother

Claire Evans, from Cuan House, said: "At first the male swan came to try to ward her off but she got around him and let the cygnet back out. The others did the usual thing of a little dance and squeaking and she said it was really nice."

Miss Morris-Jones waded into the lake on Tuesday to rescue the cygnet.

She said: "The cob was doing what he needed to do and trying to defend the cygnet from any people. The fishing wire was caught in a tree about 10 metres into the pool and the cygnet had struggled so much it had ripped its wing.

"It has made a remarkable recovery for us to be able to release it back to its family so soon. It's always nice to do something like this, to see the family squeaking to each other and that sort of thing."

A passer-by who spotted the cygnet said: "Cuan House were down here within about 45 minutes.

"They do an absolutely fantastic job."
