Yesterday's annual event started with the carnival parade at 1pm, followed by further events in the carnival field.

The parade travelled around the town and featured floats and the senior and junior Carnival Queens, 16-year-old Olivia Bradbury and 10-year-old Hazy Hollinshead.

There were also vintage tractors and cars, steam engines, marching bands and walking classes, live music from Fight the Bear, Nuclear Weasels and Thin Vision, dog agility shows, children's races, the Ascot Hat competition and exotic pets.

Anthony Jones, who has been on the carnival committee for 14 years, said: "There must be more than 2,000 people here and popularity of the event continues to draw new people in."
