Friends party to boost Georgia Williams trust
Friends of tragic Shropshire teenager Georgia Williams gathered at a music event held to raise money for a new charity started in her name.
The Georgia Williams Trust set up the event at the Telford Arena & Live Lounge in Rechabite Concert Hall in Wellington to celebrate the life of Georgia, who died in May.
It comes after Georgia's family was presented with the first ever United for Georgia Young Volunteers Award by officials at AFC Telford, as part of the club's open day and fans forum.
Phil Shieber, AFC Telford's club announcer and member of the trust board, said there was "no finer tribute" they could pay to Georgia, who was part of the club's matchday team.
Performances were put on at the music event, which ran from Saturday evening until about 3am on Sunday, by Micky Slim, Bully Beatz, Nimrod Randel, Mark Allen, Rod Knee and Simion Allen.
Tickets for the event had been on sale since the end of June and members of the trust were also selling commemorative wristbands in memory of the teenager.
Inspector Richard Langton, of West Mercia Police and also chairman of the Georgia Williams Trust, said: "The music night was put on by the father of one of Georgia's friends and it was a great turnout – there were lots of people there and it was very lively.
"We spoke to hundreds of people over the course of the day about the work the trust is doing and MP David Wright also got his wristband, which he has promised to wear in the House of Commons next week to raise awareness of our work."
Trust members had held a coffee morning earlier on Saturday at Dawley Baptist Church to raise awareness and funds.
The Georgia Williams Trust now has a Twitter page with more than 560 followers and keeps people up-to-date with events happening throughout the community in memory of the tragic teenager.
Jamie Reynolds, 22, of Avondale Road, Wellington, has appeared in court charged with Georgia's murder.
