Shrewsbury visitors could share Lord Hill's town view
A public meeting will be held to discuss the future of Shrewsbury's Lord Hill Column.
And Shropshire Council confirmed that among the topics that will be up for discussion will be whether the landmark could be opened up as a tourist attraction for paying visitors.
The meeting, on September 9, will take place in the Council Chamber at Shirehall from 6pm to 7.30pm.
It will include presentations about Lord Hill, the column and the planned repair of the 17ft statue.
The grade II-listed column, which stands at more than 133ft, has been fenced off since April 2012 when small pieces of masonry fell, with further pieces falling in December and in April.
Shropshire Council announced that the statue is to be repaired on the advice of English Heritage, with scaffolding due in August.
Councillor Keith Barrow, leader of Shropshire Council, said: "This meeting is a chance to let us know your thoughts, as well as to find out more about who Lord Hill was and why the column was built in the first place.I'm also keen to discuss whether we could make use of the column as a visitor attraction and would welcome people's thoughts on this too."
