The pet beat off competition from thousands of other animals to take the starring role in a national television pet insurance advert.

The Petplan advert, voiced by comedian Ben Miller, was beamed to millions of viewers across the UK last night during ITV show The Zoo.

Television-loving Rupert went head-to-head with 29,000 pets to win a starring role on television.

His proud owner, 21-year-old bank clerk Becky Seward, from Radbrook in Shrewsbury, said her pet loves watching the box.

She said: "He loves watching TV. His favourite show is Traffic Cops.

"I'm chuffed to bits he was selected."

Rupert found fame after Becky, who has another rabbit called Rosie and two horses, submitted his photograph to Petplan's Facebook page in February.

Rupert was then chosen as one of the 100 finalists by an independent panel of judges, before being selected as one of the winners by public vote online.

Rupert's image featured alongside the voice of comedian Miller, from the comedy double act Armstrong and Miller, in the one-off television advert which was aired between 8pm and 9pm.

Now he is hoping the offers for more television work will come flooding in!
