The first 5,000 wristbands in memory of Wellington teenager Georgia Williams have almost sold out – prompting an order for 10,000 more.

There are still a few of the initial consignment wristbands left in Boots stores, council offices and colleges across Telford.

But another line is expected to be made available next week by the Georgia Williams Trust.

Trustees are "thrilled" at how people have embraced the wristbands.

Georgia's family has also approved designs for a memorial bench to be placed in a quiet spot in the town.

It will feature a ferret in tribute to the 17-year-old's nickname. A dedication ceremony will be held when the seat is installed, although no date has yet been set.

Richard Langton, chairman of the Georgia Williams Trust, said: "This morning we did a site visit and we have ordered the bench.

"It's going to be situated at the top of Bowring Park looking down the field. It's a wonderfully peaceful location.

"There's going to be some landscaping there too and in a few weeks' time a dedication ceremony will be held for the bench."

He added: "Wristbands are still out there. Our first order of 5,000 has gone out and we have been really thrilled with the way people have embraced the wristbands.

"There's a new order on the way and we will have some exciting news about those when they arrive next week. We have had lots of help from people volunteering to sell them and the staff in the branches have been fantastic."

Wellington Town Council has donated £200 towards the bench and Telford & Wrekin Council will install it for free.

The design, approved by Georgia's parents Stephen and Lynnette Williams and her sister Scarlett, has glossy black solid aluminium ends and dark wood slats.

There will be a round plaque at each end, one with the town council crest and the other with the trust logo.

Official stockists of the wristbands are Boots at Wrekin Retail Park, New Street, Wellington, and Telford Town Centre, Wellington Civic Centre and Telford & Wrekin Council offices Addenbrooke House and Derby House.

Students at Ercall Wood and New College can get them from the colleges too.

Donations can also be made to the Georgia Williams Trust bank account at Barclays Bank.

The account is under the name New College Telford – The Georgia Williams Fund and the account number is 33366030 and the sort code is 20-85-46.

Georgia went missing from her family home in June and her body was found in woodland near Wrexham. Jamie Reynolds, 22, of Avondale Road, Wellington, has been charged with her murder and remanded in custody until September 6.
