Severn Trent still to solve 17 water supply problems across Telford

More than a dozen issues relating to water leaks, sewers and supply to homes are yet to be solved across the Telford area, it has been revealed.

Seventeen problems have been reported to Severn Trent Water across the borough by residents and businesses. It comes after brown water was found in supply to some homes in recent weeks caused by dropping water levels in a service reservoir due to the hot weather.

But officials at the water company today said services were largely returning to normal and said the repairs would be carried out using money set aside in a £25 million annual budget for the region.

Leaks identified in recent weeks include sites on Humber Lane near Newport, Applebrook in Shifnal, Rhodes Avenue in Dawley and Hillside in Ironbridge.

Today an issue with sewers has been reported on Mount Pleasant, Ketley Bank. It was the second incident there across the weekend, after a leak was reported on Grange Road on Friday.

An issue has also been found close to the main set of traffic lights linking Waterloo Road with Holyhead Road in Ketley.

Rob Salmon, a spokesman for the company said they have only had three new leaks reported today which are currently being dealt with at no extra cost to customers.

Mr Salmon said: "Over the last year, we have invested £25 million in this area to improve the local water network. The other incidents are being dealt with as part of our normal response.

"Our teams have worked hard to get our water network back to normal after the heatwave.

"The huge demand for water we saw put a lot of demand on our system and caused low water pressure for a number of customers and in some areas, a temporary loss of supply.

"We are aware of a number of water leaks across the region and are organising repairs.

"Our average time for repairing a leak is five days, but some can be fixed sooner or longer depending on the work we have to undertaken in the highway. Customers can be reassured that we take all leaks seriously and will get to any leak or burst as quickly as we can."

These issues come after homes across Dawley, Ketley, Ketley Bank, Lawley, Malinslee, Old Park and The Rock suffered from brown water and some lost supplies completely when the level at the Old Park Reservoir dropped massively due to the increased demand caused by the heatwave.
