Merrythought has produced a limited edition Royal Baby Commemorative Bear, all of which were snapped up even before the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge named their new son.

Now after the couple yesterday named their newborn George Alexander Louis, the company has been busy embroidering the name onto a silk bib in gold on to both the bear and its special edition bear.

Sarah Holmes, director of Merrythought Ltd, said: "The team here at Merrythought are delighted with the response to our Royal Baby Teddy Bear each of which has been handmade in Shropshire.

"We are working around the clock to meet demand and get customers' teddy bears to them as quickly as possible now that the baby's name has been announced.

"We are also very proud to have been commissioned to produce the official Buckingham Palace Royal Baby teddy bear."

Teddy bear number one of the limited edition is to be given to the Duke and Duchess.

Bosses at the company have said they hope the bear will become a lifelong companion to their new son.
