Whitchurch Town Council has received 17 applications for the position which was left vacant following the departure of Peter Martin last year.

Mr Martin, who used to be a Shropshire County Council member, was initially suspended by the town council in 2011 after a behind-closed-doors meeting of councillors.

It is hoped a new permanent clerk will be appointed by the Town Council meeting on August 29
