Tributes are paid to Shropshire tennis enthusiast, 86,
Tributes have been paid to an 86-year-old sports enthusiast from Shropshire who played tennis for her club up until last year.
Joy Allan, a member of Broseley Tennis Club for 42 years, died on July 20 after a short period of illness.
Her family found out she had cancer when she suffered a stroke just weeks before she died.
Her son Terry, 53, said she was a very active woman and was well known around Broseley and Coalbrookdale, where she lived.
He said: "We were very close, I used to go down and see her about three times a week, she was a brilliant mum.
"She was really fit, it came as quite a shock. It was very sudden but it was the way she would have wanted it, she was very active and was still driving."
She had played for Castle Green Tennis Club in Ironbridge which was set up by her parents before joining Broseley Tennis Club in 1969, and is believed to have been the club's oldest ever member.
Club bosses say she was a role model to many tennis players and will be remembered for her competitive play.
Richard Smith, Broseley Tennis Club spokesman, said: "Her lovely smile and excellent volleying skills will be missed so much. Her name was good because she was always happy. Sport was a big part of her life."
Her funeral will take place on Thursday at St Lukes Church in Ironbridge, from 11am and donations will be collected for Cancer Research.
