Shoppers evacuated over Welshpool gas leak fears
Shoppers had to be evacuated from a superstore in Welshpool after concerns were raised over a possible gas leak.
Staff and shoppers were told to leave Tesco, in Smithfield Road, at about 12.45pm yesterday after a problem was found with the carbon dioxide supply to the store's fridges.
A spokeswoman for Mid & West Wales Fire & Rescue Service said: "There was a problem with the carbon dioxide getting to the fridges and the store was evacuated just in case it was leaking out into the store.
"We went along to check the gas supply out and the ambulance service was called as a precaution but there were no casualties."
Rachel Edwards, personnel manager of the store, said: "Everything was back open quite quickly and there hasn't been a huge impact on trade."
