Visitors to Weston-under-Redcastle Village Show, near Wem, were able to enjoy wheelbarrow races, a vintage tractor display and a dog show.

Yesterday's event at The Citadel was opened by Shropshire's new High Sheriff Diana Flint.

Other attractions included a bail assault course, shire horses, chickens, alpacas and a North Shropshire Hounds and Beagles display.

Beverley Griffiths, who volunteers at the show with his wife Sylvia, said: "The event was very successful thanks, in no small part, to the excellent weather. It had threatened to rain but other than a small shower between 1pm and 2pm it stayed dry which made all the difference.

"The event was very well attended and we estimate more that 1,000 people were there with the car park absolutely full.

"We had about 20 vintage tractors and around the same number of classic cars. We also had a fire engine from Hodnet, craft stall and shire horses which attracted a lot of attention."

The event was only possible after about 10 volunteers spent three hours clearing the field of cow pat in preparation for the show.
