Organisers of the Clun Carnival and Show said Saturday's event was huge hit, in part thanks to good weather.

Floats and processions made their way through the town to the Castle Grounds where more than 600 stalls were set up.

Richard Bright, chairman of the carnival, said it he believed it had been the most successful in the event's history.

He said: "This year we were lucky with the weather because although there were storms in the morning, it brightened up in the afternoon.

"We haven't had the official figures yet, but the crowds were definitely up on last year. It was a very good carnival with floats and a walking procession, along with vintage tractors and vehicles – even a horse or two. The show was held on the Castle Grounds and we had well over 600 entries in the marquee, selling produce, crafts, flowers and vegetables, which is always very good for the size of the place."

The main acts include performances by the Appalacian Dancers, the Knighton Silver Band, The Chase jazz band and a birds of prey demonstration.

Mr Bright said: "We always try and vary the entertainment at this traditional country show, which has been going for 140-odd years. We get an awful lot of support and despite all the other things going on people always come to this show.

"I'd like to thank everyone who turned up and all the volunteers who helped out."
