Spanish horses take starring role at Guilsfield Show

Thousands of people flocked to a village show where they enjoyed a host of displays, demonstrations, competitions and family attractions.

Guilsfield Show was bathed in sunshine and warm temperatures – and the horse classes proved a hit with visitors.

This year saw Spanish horse classes for the first time which went down well with participants from across the country and the show-goers.

The event was held on Fron y Fele Field in Groeslwyd, near Welshpool, and visitors hailed it as one of the best agricultural shows in Mid Wales.

Sally Jones, show secretary, said: "We were very excited to have Spanish horse classes this year at Guilsfield.

"Several of the horses competing at our show were recently in the national championships so they were some spectacular animals."

Mrs Jones said that in addition to the horses there were also classes for sheep, dogs and poultry as well as a small animal petting show, where children were given the chance to handle small animals.

Poppy Hitchens, five, from nearby Arddleen, said: "It was nice to see the animals up close and to get to hold rabbits."

Sylvia Roberts, 48, from Guilsfield, said: "It is such a popular show and everyone from the village and all the areas around always comes. The horses are always particularly popular.

"It was so good that the sun was shining and everyone was in party mode."
