Charity plea to save loveable sick dog

Can you help this loveable dog? Fizz the Chow Chow dog was handed over to a Shropshire charity – but since she arrived she has cost them more than £1,000 in medical bills.

The dog was dropped off at Grinshill Animal Rescue Centre, near Wem, because her owner said she could no longer walk her due to ill health.

But bosses at the centre have since discovered the dog has a urinary tract problem and they have committed themselves to paying for her medicine for the rest of her life.

In the two months they have had her, the centre has spent more than £1,000 on her special diet.

She is expected to live until about 13 or 14-years-old.

Owner of the centre Jenny Martinez said: "Fizz is an eight-year-old Chow who came into rescue as a handover, but we were misled about her health.

"Fizz now has to have long term treatment but thankfully is improving. We are appealing for funds to help us to continue to treat this lovely girl."

Mrs Martinez said the centre was a charity and could not fund huge bills. They have now launched the Fizz Fund to collect money especially to look after the dog.

She will be going to a new home this weekend but the centre will be supporting her medical costs for the rest of her life.

"It is just great that someone will offer a dog like this a home," Mrs Martinez added.

"We wouldn't ever not look after an animal, we would just do it and think about how we'd fund it after.

"She's so adorable, we would never have thought we wouldn't do this for her."
