Minute's applause at AFC Telford United for murdered teenager Georgia Williams
A minute's applause was held before AFC Telford United's first match of the new season in memory of tragic murdered teenager Georgia Williams.
Georgia's family, including parents Steve and Lynette, were in the crowd for Saturday's Skrill North curtain-raiser against Workington Town at the New Bucks Head.
As well as the applause before the game, the whole ground also broke out into another round of clapping in the 17th minute to mark the teenager's age when she was killed. The players also wore armbands during the match and warmed up in Georgia Williams Trust T-shirts.
Richard Langton, chairman of the trust, said: "I was there for the whole event and it was wonderful, a really fitting tribute.
"It was amazing how the fans, and even the away fans, totally got behind the idea and it was very emotional.
"And in the 17th minute, when it came up on the scoreboard and everyone broke out into a spontaneous round of applause, it just made the hairs stand up on the back of your neck.
"To have Steve, Lynette and the family there to see that was just wonderful and it was great to see the first team players and even the mascots wearing Georgia Williams T-shirts."
Jamie Reynolds, 22, of Avondale Road, Wellington, has appeared in court charged with Georgia's murder.
