The cat, believed to be about a year old, has been stuck up a tree on a footpath off Saltwell Drive in Muxton for the past three days

The black and white cat, which is believed to be about a year old, has been stuck in the tree since Tuesday.

Mike Briggs, who walks his dog on a nearby field, said he spotted the cat in the tree yesterday.

He said: "It's a black and white cat and I think it is about a year old. It's been stuck up the tree for three days now.

The owner had to have the day off work yesterday because she was trying to get it down. She said she had contacted the RSPCA and they were talking about getting the fire service involved but she said she wasn't sure what was happening.

"She had some toys and was trying to coax the cat down but she wasn't getting anywhere. I walked past this morning and the cat was still there, but I don't know if the owner has gone back to work today .

"There's a few of us who walk our dogs at the field at the back and we're a bit worried. If she has been up there that long then she can't have eaten much and we are worried she will get frail and fall out of the tree and be seriously hurt."

Nicola Walker, a spokeswoman for the RSPCA said: "An RSPCA officer visited yesterday and concluded that the cat is currently not in any immediate danger and is making attempts to find its own way down. The cat is being monitored and if its circumstances change we will be notified and take action."
