A 14-year-old girl is preparing to run up and down the Wrekin for eight hours to raise money in memory of tragic teenager Georgia Williams.

Freya Mason, 14, from Leegomery in Telford, met Georgia at the cadets squadron in Wellington they both attended and wants to help raise money for the trust set up in her memory.

She hopes to raise as much money as she can in sponsorship when, on September 28, she climbs the Wrekin as many times as she can between 9am and 5pm.

Lauren Bryan, Freya's aunt, said the idea stemmed from getting a new pair of running shoes for her 14th birthday.

Miss Bryan said: "Freya met Georgia at the cadets and Georgia was a little bit older than her so I think Georgia helped her out when she got there, and they became quite close.

"It was her 14th birthday recently and her mother bought her a new pair of Nike running trainers in the colours of the Georgia Williams Trust so I think it's all stemmed from that really."

Despite never having done anything like this before, Miss Bryan said Freya is surprisingly fit and should be able to run for most of the eight hours.

She said: "For a 14-year-old girl she is surprisingly fit so she is going to try and run it all. She goes on away days with the cadets quite a lot so she is quite fit."
