The Beacon Hotel in Copthorne Road has been taken over by new landlord John Bates.

The pub closed on August 11 after the previous landlord left the industry after 20 years in the trade.

The closure shocked regulars, who said they hoped it could be reopened under new ownership.

And those wishes have now been answered as a new team comes in to take over the site.

Manager Alan Yapp said: "I can't believe we managed to get it turned around so quickly.

"People were shocked that it had closed which shows just how popular it was. We had a soft opening on Thursday and everyone was really happy that it was open again.

"We've had loads of support from local people, which is really encouraging."

Mr Yapp said the pub's focus was going to be on home-cooked food, screening sports, and events including live bands.

The pub has a large beer garden and parking for up to 80 vehicles.
