Wellington literary festival still going ahead
Town councillors say their annual literary festival will be taking place this year, despite a number of banners advertising the event being taken down because they were too big.
Wellington Town Council put up banners around the town to advertise the event, but had to take them down again to comply with planning regulations.
They will be replaced with smaller banners which meet planning rules.
Howard Perkins, clerk to Wellington Town Council, said: "The town council literary festival committee, which has been working for the past year on the event, have agreed to advertise it in a different way to the way in which it was done last year.
"Unfortunately, when these new banners were made they were slightly too large and in order to comply with planning regulations the council had to get them replaced with slightly smaller ones."
The banners were put up around the town early last week but were taken down a few days later.
But, the festival is still very much due to go ahead, with a launch expected on September 28.
Mr Perkins said that those wishing to attend should book their tickets in advance as they are already in high demand.
One of the stars of this year's festival will be Germaine Greer who is due to give the opening talk at Wrekin College.
