Shropshire schoolboy Brook's head injury charity raises £30k
A charity set up after a schoolboy was knocked over by a skier in France has collected more than £30,000 in just six months.
The cash raised by the Brook Hill Foundation will be used to help care for young people recovering from traumatic head injuries and provide support for their families.
Brook Hill, 10, was hit while on holiday in Les Monts d'Olmes ski resort in the Pyrenees in February. The White House School pupil spent more than two weeks in a coma in Toulouse and had to have part of his skull re-inserted.
But Brook, who lives in Wrenbury near Whitchurch, has since amazed doctors with his recovery. In fact he is now so active that he broke his arm on a zipwire earlier this month.
In the wake of the accident his family and friends set up the charitable foundation in a bid to help others in a similar situation, and Brook's father Louis said that he has been overwhelmed by the support they had received.
He said: "Within six months of launching we have raised more than £30,000.
"Money has already been spent on supporting children from Alder Hey Hospital.
"It has been a fantastic response. We were always keen to make some good from some bad and we have been lucky to be able to raise so much money from so many people."
He said he looked forward to continuing to spend the money on helping children recover and "live life to the full", the main aim of the charity.
Mr Hill said: "The fundraising has just been amazing, it has taken off incredibly. Quite a considerable amount of money has come forward from Shropshire, Cheshire and mid Wales"
He said Brook is doing "fantastically well" and is back doing everything he did before the accident.
Earlier this month he broke his arm on a zipwire and had to go to the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital for treatment.
"He started talking to a man who had broken his leg and they started having a competition about who had done what and when Brooky mentioned what he was like six months ago a number of people turned their heads and said they had heard of him," Mr Hill said.
"He still has appointments in Alder Hey and problems with his eye but he is still getting better slowly. It takes time."
