Theatrical Telford dog in Guinness Book of World Records
Dancing Danny the dog is used to having the eyes of the public trained on him – and now the Telford terrier has made it into the Guinness Book of World Records.
Following a gruelling 18-month process of checks, research and the gathering of dates, it has been confirmed the 12-year-old terrier from Oakengates will be appearing in the 2014 edition of the famous record book.
Danny is officially the pooch with the most stage performances after racking up a record-breaking 1,365 roles playing dog Sandy in the musical Annie.
His delighted owner Rita Mansell, who lives in Wombridge Road, received a certificate in the post yesterday informing her of Danny's unbeaten achievement.
"We were still touring round the country when I first applied so it must have been more than 18 months ago and they require such a lot of proof," Rita said.
"It's something that keeps niggling at the back of your mind because they go into all the dates and individual performances and really leave no stone unturned.
"But we're delighted and it is something to be really proud of – it is a big achievement.
The official number that will be in the book of records is 1,365 although we've done lots of amateur performances on top of that which they don't count."
Danny retired from professional acting almost two years ago but is still appearing in the odd amateur production, starring in Shrewsbury earlier this year and again in Birmingham this month.
"We will also be at the Wolverhampton Grand in November so Danny is still keeping his paws busy," Rita said.
