Man's ankle broken as fight erupts outside Newport pub
A man was left with a broken ankle after a brawl in broad daylight outside a pub in Newport town centre, police said today.
Officers are appealing for witnesses after an assault outside The Shakespeare Inn, in Upper Bar, yesterday.
Police said that at just after 3pm there was a row between two men in the pub. They then stepped outside and the disagreement became physical.
A 28-year-old man suffered a suspected broken ankle in the fracas.
The other man believed to be involved, who is described as short and with blonde hair, walked back into the pub.
He rejoined friends and they all left together before the police arrived.
A spokesman for West Mercia Police said: "After this incident the man who suffered the ankle injury was taken to hospital to receive medical treatment.
"It seems the other man went back into the pub and rejoined a larger group of men before they all then left the pub a short time later and headed off towards the High Street.
"The man who went back into the pub after the assault is described as being white, around 5ft 6inches tall, aged in his mid-30s and as having a stocky build.
"He is also described as have short blonde hair and as wearing a grey hooded top with a zip, beige coloured jeans and trainers.
"Officers investigating this incident would like to hear from anyone who witnessed the altercations inside or outside the pub, or anyone who believes they may be able to identify the second man involved in the fracas."
A spokeswoman for West Midlands Ambulance Service said: "We were called to reports of an assault. We treated a male patient and he was conveyed to the Princess Royal Hospital."
