Country park boost for town
Children have somewhere to play, families somewhere to picnic and wildlife somewhere to flourish thanks to a mini country park that has opened in Welshpool.
Even dogs have their own special area within the park to have a good run with their owners.
The new playground and open space by the Flash Leisure Centre has been created by the town council and was officially opened by the Mayor, Councillor John Meredith yesterday.
No sooner was the ribbon cut, with the help of landowners, David and Rosamund Corfield, than youngsters were enjoying the play equipment.
Councillor Meredith paid tribute to Mr and Mrs Corfield, who have entered into a lease with the council for the use of the land for the benefit of the town.
"This will be a real asset to Welshpool," he said."We have wanted to provide a play area for the Gungrog area for a long time, in fact it was in our community plan."
There is a new adventure playground, dog walking areas, picnic benches and open spaces.
The council will work with Montgomeryshire Wildlife Trust to encourage wildlife in the area.
Work began on the site on August 5.
Councillor Meredith said: "We have installed a CCTV camera to help protect the country park and those using it."
