Ann Marie Rugg, of Abbots Close, in Shrewsbury, entered not guilty pleas to four charges of fraud when she appeared at Shrewsbury Crown Court yesterday.

The charges relate to a family insurance policy which was paid out after 52-year-old Paul Rugg was fatally stabbed in Harlescott in January 2010.

Rugg, 46, is accused of claiming she was the sole beneficiary of an insurance policy worth approximately £80,000 – and keeping £62,940.70 for herself.

She is also accused of sending a false letter and fake dependents form to life insurance company Aegon UK.

The case was adjourned for trial to a date to be fixed and Rugg was released on bail.
