Shropshire restaurants win their place in top food guide
[gallery] Two Shropshire restaurants have been named among the best in the country in a new guide.
The Inn at Grinshill, near Wem, has been entered into the Waitrose Good Food Guide 2014 for the first time, while Mr Underhills in Ludlow has been placed 36th in the top 50 restaurants listing.
The Good Food Guide is the UK's longest-running, bestselling restaurant guide and is in its 63rd year of publication.
Vicki Brazier, owner of The Inn at Grinshill, said she was very pleased as it rewarded 11 years of hard work.
She said: "It is really great, we are just over the moon.
"It is such an accessible guide for everyone, Michelin is really good and we are rated in that but this one people use continually.
"It is one of the goals we have worked towards, it is a such respected attainment.
"You can't just call them and ask to be in it or for them to come and assess you, they just keep an eye on you and eventually you can get into it.
"It is such a great all rounder, it really delivers."
Her husband Kevin added: "We are very pleased, it is fantastic.
"It has taken us 11 years to work towards that goal. It has taken a long time, you can't get in it overnight."
Meanwhile, Judy and Chris Bradley's restaurant Mr Underhills has been in the Good Food Guide every year for more than 30 years.
It missed out a mention only once, during the year the couple relocated Mr Underhills from Suffolk to Ludlow.
Mrs Bradley said: "Every year you have to win ratings back. We have had their support ever since we opened.
"With all the newcomers it is good that we can still cut the mustard, as they say.
"It is good for us, all our staff and our customers, too."
Elizabeth Carter, consultant editor of the Good Food Guide, said: "The Midlands appear to be on a roll at the moment with a string of top restaurants and some fantastic new entries this year."
The latest edition of the guide will be published on September 9.
