Shrewsbury primary school taken out of special measures
A Shrewsbury primary school has been taken out of special measures after making major improvements to teaching standards.
Harlescott Junior School, in Featherbed Lane, was placed in special measures in November 2011 after a report by Ofsted inspectors said it was providing "inadequate education".
But it has now been listed as a "good school" following the publication of the results of a new inspection that took place in July.
The report said: "At the time of the previous inspection, attainment in Year 6 was in decline in both English and mathematics and the school did not meet the government's floor standards.
"Attainment in Year 6 has improved markedly over the last two years. In 2012 it was above the national average for English and mathematics for Level 4 and above.
"Over the last year improvement is most evident in the proportion of pupils attaining Level 5 in writing and mathematics."
The school has a total of 277 pupils on its roll.
