Customers clean out of ideas as Shrewsbury shop is shut
A Shrewsbury dry cleaning business has been shut for more than two months – despite having hundreds of garments still on its rails.
The last time Same Day Dry Cleaners - which has traded in Wyle Cop for more than 50 years - was operating fully was in July.
But the shop was open briefly last week for people wishing to collect their clothes – many of which were still as dirty as when they were dropped off.
Customers wanting their clothes returned had resorted to putting notes through the letterbox and telephoning the shop, but to no avail.
Stan Newton, of Oakdale Drive, Shrewsbury, said: "My daughter took four jackets, belonging to her and my grandson in to the dry cleaners about two months ago. But since then she hasn't been able to get them back as the shop is never open.
"There's a notice on the window changing every day, saying "come tomorrow". Next day you go and it says something different.
"The mail has been cleared through the letter box. My daughter can't get hold of the people running it and we've been trying to ring it up.
"We have even sent letters by recorded delivery to them asking for our goods to be returned.
"I know it is called Same Day Dry Cleaners but I call it Some Day Dry Cleaners," added Mr Newton.
No one at Same Day Dry Cleaners, which opened in 1959, was available for comment when contacted by the Shropshire Star.
But it is understood that the prolonged closure has been due to the ill health of two members of staff.
