A minute's silence was held for 19-year-old Liam Wright, from Brookside, Telford, at Telford Town Park yesterday.

The solemn occasion, led by his sister Deborah Mason, marked the day he died in a fire next to Madeley Ski Slope in 1990.

A handful of those closest to Mr Wright came together at the war memorial before laying flowers at his grave in Red Lake.

Later people took to Facebook tribute page "Liam Wright RIP xx 10 September 1990" to express their sadness. A comment from Mr Wright's mother, Faith, who now lives in Spain said: "Thank you everyone who has commented on the pictures and for remembering Liam.

"Thanks too to those who participated in the two-minute silence this morning.

"I too was there in spirit. A bit overwhelmed by such kindness.

"It is comforting to share his life and memories."

And Mrs Mason wrote: "Just back from Telford and am now raising a glass to Liam.

"It has been a sad but lovely day. Thank you all for remembering Liam today."

An inquest recorded an open verdict. Police reopened the investigation in 2010, when a man in his late 30s was arrested on suspicion of murder but was later released without charge.

Police have said investigations into any suspicious death were never closed and, even given the passage of time, detectives would continue to examine the events of the night Liam died in an effort to find out what happened.

Anyone with any information is asked to call police in Telford on 0300 333 3000 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
