Signal problems at Wolverhampton also caused 20-minute delays in travelling to and from Shrewsbury.
Francis Thomas, a spokesman for London Midland, said that the cow had got on to the line near Wellington at about 8.20am.
This caused the 8.47am Shrewsbury to Birmingham service to have to start from Wellington instead of Shrewsbury.
The 7.47am train was delayed by nine minutes and the 7.26am by 23 minutes.
The problem was resolved within half an hour when the cow was herded back to its field.
