Ferret Fest took place on Saturday in Bowring Park, Wellington, in aid of the Georgia Williams Trust, raising more than £1,000 in the process.

Youngsters involved in the Engage 4 Life programme organised a fundraising day of live music and activities to raise money for the trust.

Many of the hundreds of people who attended knew Georgia personally and those who organised it felt that hosting their own event would be a positive way to raise funds.

One of the organisers, Katie Ellis, said: "Prior to the event we contacted the trustees and they were fully supportive and wanted to work with us to put on the tremendous event that will give back to all the local people for all the support they have provided.

"The young people have been working hard over the last month to arrange this event and confirm local bands.

"Saturday's event was amazing featuring some brilliant bands and we thank them and all the volunteers that came along to help as well.

"As of Sunday morning we have counted out all the cash from the collecting buckets at the park entrances, the T-shirt and wristband sales, Dan Greenwood's CD sales and £215 from one of the stalls and the total raised so far is £1,271 which is fantastic and there'll be some more to come too, so well done everyone.

Ercall Wood Technology College also helped raise funds in Georgia's memory on Saturday at their community day which featured Batman, along with Stormtroopers and other Star Wars characters.

Georgia Williams was 17 when she died at an address in Wellington in May. Jamie Reynolds, 22, of Avondale Road, Wellington, has been remanded in custody, charged with her murder.
