West Mercia Pc who sent sex texts to abuse victim 'acted unforgivably'
A serving police constable who was jailed after an inappropriate relationship with a victim of domestic abuse acted in an "unforgivable way", according to one of Shropshire's top officers.
Jordan Powell, 31, was jailed for 15 months yesterday after admitting three counts of misconduct in a public office. He was due to stand trial at Gloucester Crown Court but changed his plea to guilty. The convictions relate to sending inappropriate text messages to a victim of domestic violence who he met through his job.
Powell, who was also engaged in a sexual relationship with the woman while on duty. Powell also admitted sending another female victim of crime inappropriate text messages of a sexual nature.
Assistant Chief Constable Gareth Morgan said: "This officer acted in an unforgivable way and abused his role and the position of trust that he had been given. He has exploited his role and targeted vulnerable women for his own personal gratification.
"On behalf of West Mercia Police I would like to apologise to the women involved and pay tribute to their strength and bravery throughout this investigation."
Powell was arrested and suspended from West Mercia Police in July 2012 and will face a misconduct hearing. Powell joined West Mercia in October 2004 and the court heard that he had already received a written warning in 2008 for an inappropriate relationship with a female victim of crime.
