Stage Four was taking in the A53 by Market Drayton and passing through Ightfield and Whitchurch before crossing the border towards Wrexham and finishing in Llanberis. Tomorrow's stage will follow the border down from Machynlleth to Caerphilly.

This year's 10th anniversary race has attracted a record 19 teams and 114 riders. Other star names include Mark Cavendish.

Among the crowd hoping to catch a glimpse of the cycling superstars were 320 pupils from Whitchurch Junior School.

Headteacher Diana West said: "We are all so excited that the Tour of Britain is coming right past our school and we were determined to make the most of the opportunity."
