People in Shropshire living longer than in Telford & Wrekin borough

People in Telford & Wrekin will fall ill sooner and die younger than those in the rest of the county, new figures have revealed.

Shropshire folk can expect to live healthier and longer lives than their counterparts in Telford according to figures revealed by the Department of National Statistics.

These show that during the years 2009 to 2011 overall life expectancy for men in Telford & Wrekin was 77.4 years and 82 years for women. But Shropshire men could expect to live for 79.6 years, while for women life expectancy was 83.4 years.

Nationally, men can expect to have 63.2 years of healthy life. But men in Telford can expect only 59.9 years, while men in Shropshire get 65.4, or 2.4 years more.

Women in Telford are expected to live healthy lives for 5.5 years less than the national average of 64.2, while those in Shropshire can expect 2.9 years more.

Life expectancy for men in Telford & Wrekin is 77.4 years – 1.5 years less than the England average of 78.9 years.

Healthy life expectancy for men in Telford & Wrekin is 59.9 years – 3.3 less than the England average of 63.2 years.

Life expectancy for women in Telford & Wrekin is 82 years – 0.9 less than the England average of 82.9 years.

Healthy life expectancy for women in Telford & Wrekin is 58.7 years – 5.5 less than the England average of 64.2 years.

Life expectancy for men in Shropshire is 79.6 years – 0.7 more than the England average of 78.9 years.

Healthy life expectancy for men in Shropshire is 65.6 years – 2.4 more than the England average of 63.2 years.

Life expectancy for women in Shropshire is 83.4 years – 0.5 more than the England average of 82.9 years.

Healthy life expectancy for women in Shropshire is 67.1 years – 2.9 more than the England average of 64.2 years.
