Town tribute for April Jones funeral
A ceremony to mark the funeral of murdered schoolgirl April Jones will be held in Welshpool.
Five-year-old April's funeral will be held next Thursday at St Peter's Church in Machynlleth, but Welshpool Town Council has agreed to hold a separate ceremony in the town following requests from members of the public.
People are being invited to gather outside the town hall for music, prayers and a minute's silence, followed by an address by the mayor, Councillor John Meredith.
Robert Robinson, Welshpool town clerk, said: "April's death touched people far and wide and many people in Welshpool were deeply moved so we were happy to get involved with this.
"At 12.20pm people are asked to gather around the town hall and a piece of music will be played through the sound system at 12.25. At 12.30 there will be a minute's silence, followed by prayers and an address by the mayor.
"All are invited to wear something pink, April's favourite colour."
Mourners in Machynlleth on the day of April's funeral have also been asked to wear pink or colourful clothing.
The funeral cortege will leave April's home on the Bryn y Gog estate and a horse and carriage will carry her coffin.
Despite one of the biggest search operations in police history, April's body has never been found.
