The convoy of around 15 vehicles – including an Austin 1300 GT from 1972 and an MG Midget from 1970 – set off from Wolverhampton Airport in Bobbington for a scenic tour.

Drivers and their navigators travelled along some of the most scenic routes of the region, taking in Bridgnorth and Ironbridge as part of the tour.

Anthony Ellis and Phil Matthews were proud to show off the 1978 classic Mk2 Escort that was their wheels for the day.

And Malcolm and Elaine Oxborrow, of Ludlow, set off in a 1970 MG Midget.

Mr Oxborrow, aged 67, said: "I've done rallies and touring all my life. A lot of older people like us who used to compete in rallies can't do so any more so we enjoy doing the scenic tours instead."

Wolverhampton and South Staffordshire Car Club organised the event yesterday. The cars set off at one minute intervals from the airport in Bobbington on Sunday morning.

Participants stopped in Bridgnorth for lunch before getting back behind the wheel to head to Wenlock Edge and Much Wenlock, Ironbridge, Pattingham and the Hollybush in Ebbstree Road, Trysull for a barbecue.

Course clerk Robert Blane, 58, of Perton, said: "A lot of people find once they try a scenic tour like this they really enjoy it."
