Shropshire bucks trend as private property rents remain stable

Shropshire is bucking a trend that has seen private property rents reaching their second highest levels since 2008, property experts said today.

Figures released this week show that at an average of £743, monthly rents in August were just £1 less than an all-time high recorded in October 2012.

The figures were produced by LSL Property Services, which owns chains Your Move and Reeds Rains.

But according to Shropshire lettings agents the picture in the county is different.

They state that while the market is buoyant, and signs of improvement are showing, the average rent in Shropshire is between £575 and £600.

Dawn Clark, director of lettings and property management at Nock Deighton, which has offices in Oswestry, Telford, Ludlow, Bridgnorth and Shrewsbury, said: "We are finding that the rental market is more buoyant than it was in any time since 2008. But there is no evidence of any rent rises but they will surely follow on."

She put the increased buoyancy down to growing confidence over jobs.

Neil Bushell, from Julia Weston Sales & Lettings in Wellington, said: "The majority of this information is geared toward the London and the South East.

"There does not seem to be any signs of recession there but here it is a different story. Wages are not rising."
