Date set for Royal Shrewsbury Hospital car parking rise
Parking charges at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital will rise from next month, it has been confirmed.
They will rise by £1 per 24 hours – from the current £2 to £3.
In a report to last night's meeting of the Local Joint Committee for Bowbrook, Copthorne and Radbrook, John Ellis-Tipton estates manager for the environment at the Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust, said: "The camera-based parking control system is presently being installed and will go live in late October.
"This will control patient and visitor's parking and will be based on a tiered tariff; the longer a person stays, the more they will pay.
"The first 30 minutes are free, so as to allow the dropping off/picking up and for blood tests.
"There will be discounted multi-parking tickets for regular visitors. The longer a person stays, the more they pay, up to a maximum of £3 for 24 hours."
Chairman of the LJC Councillor Peter Nutting, who represents the Copthorne ward, said that a survey, run jointly by the trust and the council, would shortly take place of those living close to the hospital.
He said: "This is much needed. People are parking on double and single yellow lines in the roads near to the hospital. It is causing trouble."
In his report to the committee, Mr Ellis-Tipton said: "The survey will be undertaken at intervals through the day as to detect parking patterns.
"This will give baseline information about the parking situation prior to the implementation of the camera-based parking control system.
"A subsequent survey will be undertaken post-implementation of the camera system, to ascertain any changes.
"The Trust wishes to undertake a survey of residents in neighbouring areas to determine their views on the present situation and also to explain the parking control option available."
