The robbers, who are not thought to have been armed, got away on a motorcycle after the raid outside the Lloyds branch in Park Street, Shifnal.

The G4S driver had been in the bank and was returning to his van when two men went up to him and demanded the cash box, before grabbing it off him.

He was left shaken but unhurt.

It is the second bank raid in the town in just a few months.

West Mercia Police spokesman Chris Ammonds said: "They grabbed the box from him and made off in the direction of the A41 on a motorcycle.

"It is not known at this stage how much money was in the box and inquiries are continuing."

He said officers were working with the Central Motorway Police Group and West Midlands Police to trace the robbers.

The raid follows a similar attack on the nearby Barclays Bank in August where hooded robbers threatened a G4S security guard with a hammer and stole a cash box from outside the bank on Market Square.

The two men in yesterday's raid are described as wearing dark motorcycle leathers and dark helmets.

A spokesman for G4S said: "The driver is extremely shaken but unharmed."

Police conducted door-to-door inquires at nearby homes after the raid and police are appealing for anyone who saw the robbery to get in touch.

The manager of a nearby shop, who did not want to be named, said: "I heard a commotion and saw two young men.

"Within seconds I heard the roar of the bike as they sped off."

Mr Ammonds appealed for any witnesses to yesterday's robbery or anyone who saw two men dressed in motorcycle clothes hanging around near the bank to contact police on 101, quoting incident number 294S081013.
