Members of The Gorge Parish Council have been looking into installing CCTV systems in Ironbridge after recent damage to cars and graffiti on buildings in the town.

Jayne Madeley, clerk to the council, said: "I was asked by councillors to look into this.

"I've had responses from various other fellow clerks and their main advice seems to be to make sure you get a system which can be usable in evidence.

"There is some advice that says any cameras in Ironbridge have also got to be attached to buildings, not poles, and not listed buildings, which will then require planning permission."

Mrs Madeley told members of the council at last night's meeting at the offices in Maws Craft Centre that she had been asked to speak to local Police Crime Risk Advisors about the initial idea before any decisions are made.

No costings are planned to be made for the scheme until the councillors decide they would like to progress and conduct a feasibility study into the scheme.

Mrs Madeley said: "There are lots of things to think about, it might end with the conclusion that it is not viable. I can arrange a meeting with the police advisor and they will say if they do not think it is needed."
