Man charged with Newport bank robbery shown on Crimewatch
A man today appeared in court charged with a robbery at a bank in Newport.
Martin Dawson, 49, was arrested on Tuesday night by armed officers from West Mercia and Staffordshire Police after a car he was driving was stopped in Truro Place, Bentilee, Stoke-on-Trent.
Dawson, of no fixed abode, has remained in custody since his arrest and was last night charged with the robbery at the Britannia bank in Newport as well as four other offences.
The other offences are a separate robbery in Macclesfield in August, two counts of possessing a firearm with intent to commit an indictable offence and one count of escaping lawful custody.
His arrest followed an appeal on BBC's Crimewatch programme on Monday night.
Dawson appeared at Telford Magistrates Court this morning.
He was remanded in custody and is due to appear in crown court on November 11.
