Mobile police stations were launched across Shropshire by West Mercia Police at the start of August.

They are made of a large police vans which have been specially adapted, kitted out with seating, desks and a computer.

Wednesday was the first day that residents in Hadley were able to see their brand new facility.

The van, which was placed in the town's market, was already attracting the attention of shoppers who were taking the opportunity to talk with their neighbourhood policing team.

Jan Giddis , who works in the town, was the first to visit the police station.

She said: "It is great, I love it. It will make people more aware. I came out because the van is here."

Police officers who cover Hadley and Leegomery believe that the new mobile police station will help bring them closer to the public.

Constable Mark Morgan, from Wellington Police Station, said: "We're going out to the public, it is more convenient for them and they can visit us as part of their routine.

"Some people just want to see us for advice but others have got more serious issues which we need to address."

At the moment the mobile police station, formerly a speed camera van, is shared with Shrewsbury. That means it will only be in the town on a monthly basis, but Constable Morgan says they hope to get their own van.

Currently the sessions are organised to take place on a Wednesday to coincide with Hadley market days. The mobile police station will be returning to the area on November 27 visiting Hadley in the morning and Leegomery in the afternoon.
