A Shakespeare play formed the backbone of Ludlow Arts Festival for more than 50 years, but came to an abrupt end when the former festival organisers ran into financial difficulty.

Now the new team behind a revamped arts festival are planning to reintroduce a Shakespeare production.

Ludlow Arts Festival in association with Stafford Gatehouse Theatre will present a new production of As You Like It, with 11 performances from June 14 to 22.

Ludlow Festival Director Chris Davis said: "The works of Shakespeare form the foundation on which the Ludlow Festival was built and we are delighted that they will once again be a key part of this great annual celebration.

"We are honoured this year to be working in association with the brilliant Gatehouse Theatre in Stafford.

"The return of Shakespeare, coupled with an exciting new line-up of the very best British performance, comedy and music – to be announced soon – will once more make the Ludlow Arts Festival complete."
