Telford hospital parking rise date revealed
A hike in parking charges at Telford's Princess Royal Hospital will come into force on Monday, health chiefs have confirmed.
Charges to park at the PRH and the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital will be increased to £3.50 for 24 hours – a rise of 75 per cent from the current all day £2 flat rate.
Officials at Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust have said services would be hit if parking charges do not go up. But the decision has been attacked by Telford MP David Wright, who described the move as "a charge on the sick".
The new tariff will see visitors charged £2.50 for up to two hours, £3 for up to five hours and £3.50 for up to 24 hours. There will be concessions available for people on long term treatment plans or who are visiting hospital regularly.
Mr Wright said: "I am astounded by this decision. The cost of living is rising for everyone and this is another hit.
"Parking charges hit some of the most vulnerable people in the community."
Adrian Osborne, communications director for SaTH, said: "While the trust has managed to avoid increasing car parking charges for eight years, this cannot continue without having an impact on other services and facilities."
