Train worker dies onboard Arriva service from Shrewsbury

A train worker has died while working onboard an Arriva service from Shrewsbury to Manchester.

Trolley steward David Humphreys, from Ellesmere died, while working on the Arriva Trains Wales service from Milford Haven to Manchester Piccadilly yesterday.

It is believed Mr Humphreys was found by the train conductor in the toilet of the passenger train.

Paramedics from North West Ambulance service were alerted and were on the scene when the train arrived at Crewe Railway station.

A spokesman for British Transport Police said paramedics were called to the station at around 11.30am yesterday.

He added: "The man was taken to Leighton Hospital in Crewe, but unfortunately he died."

British Transport Police confirmed that the man's family had been informed. The cause of death is not yet known.

Shocked colleagues turned to Facebook tofday to share tributes of Mr Humphreys, who was described as a "valued friend and colleague".

Ed Pritchard, an Arriva worker from Shrewsbury, said: "Such sad news on the railway today. Dave you had a heart of gold and didn't have a bad bone in your body. You will be missed by all."

Rhys Palmer, a worker for Arriva posted: "Such sad news today, he was such a great guy and will be missed by all."
