This deer in the grounds of Attingham Park was captured on camera by Shropshire Star reader Robert Gwilliam

The picture, taken by Robert Gwilliam, was taken last week as he went for a walk around the grounds of the National Trust property in Atcham, near Shrewsbury.

Mr Gwilliam, 59, from Monkmoor in Shrewsbury, said he had been delighted to capture the image after taking care not to startle the animal.

The keen photographer said: "I go for a walk around Attingham Park regularly and I was just walking along with a camera which I always take with me.

"There were two deer, one lying down and one stood up. I used my long lens and snapped the shot. You don't see the deer that close very often. As soon as they hear something, they are gone.

"I don't like to get too close because of frightening them."

Mr Gwilliam said that he always takes his camera to Attingham Park in the hope of catching images of either the deer or otters that live in a brook on the site.
