Artist's view of new Lidl store for Newport
Lidl today released an artist's impression of a new store it is planning for Newport.
The discount giant today confirmed plans to open a new store at the Mere Park Garden Centre site, off Stafford Road.
A public consultation event has been organised for Monday at the garden centre from 3pm to 7pm.
Clare Norman, a spokeswoman for Lidl, said: "We are proposing to build a new Lidl supermarket adjacent to the existing Premier Inn, which forms part of the overall Mere Park Site."
The store would consist of 13,842 sq ft of sales area store with 82 car parking spaces. It is expected to create 25 full-time and part-time jobs.
Ms Norman added: "We will be submitting our planning application shortly after taking on board the comments and feedback received from local residents and members of the public at the consultation event.
"We believe our proposal will provide more choice for the residents of Newport, which currently only has a Co-op and Waitrose."
